Congratulations. Having seen that, you can save yourself the time of reading MTV Multiplayer's "impression" of the game. Stephen Totilo's latest article about the Watchmen movie tie-in game reads like a press release written by Bush's administration; it goes over the facts we already know and offers us none of the wisdom we were hoping for, despite promising it.
It's not my place to critique better writers than I, but this bullshit is exactly why I started this site. I literally can not find anything I would call an "impression" in this article, or an opinion of any sort. It reads like the fact sheet which, humorously enough, Totilo specifies he is quoting from; "Enemies were lumbering and persistent. Up to 20 of them can join the fight, according to the game’s official fact sheet". Thanks.
Then there are statements like "It’s a brawler, the kind of game that doesn’t reveal its complexities without repeat, dedicated play". How would you know that without finishing it, and playing it repeatedly and in a dedicated manner? Regardless, I'm confident not many people will do that once it's released.
Then to finish the piece by categorizing the game with Flower, the Lost and the Damned for GTAIV, and even the Fallout 3 DLC as "marquee downloadable content for 2009" seems like an exaggeration at best. I would be quicker to categorize Watchmen: The End is Nigh with the Doritos Dash of Destruction game or that FPS that used to come with boxes of Chex. Having seen a much better gameplay video on X-Play than the one I was able to provide, I will state my opinion now that this is a mediocre brawler that should only appeal to people desperate for a beat-'em-up.
It dares to alter canon without the influence of the original creator and even without the whole Alan Moore drama that is something that everyone should loathe to do. The combat is clunky, repetitive, and not particularly exciting and the graphics are gritty but not in a manner that I would say does the game any favors. It's gritty more like the walls of a sewer might be, or perhaps the lining of a litter box. It's dirty, but it's not necessarily appealing.
Perhaps I'm being too harsh on the Watchmen: The End is Nigh, but I wouldn't fucking know that by anything MTV Multiplayer has given me. I go to game sites to get opinions, not bullet-points from the marketing team.
But that's just my opinion.
